We were pleased to once again host a performance as part of the Lethbridge Jazz & Blues Festival. This year we brought in Kaley Kinjo & The Hypocrites from Calgary to perform at City Hall on Friday, June 7.

Kaley Kinjo is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist from Alberta, Canada. As a songwriter Kaley has a wide versatility; ranging from acoustic roots and reggae, to folk rock ballads and soul pop. As a singer and performer, Kinjo has a unique presence, pleasing crowds where ever he goes with his strong vocals, great musicianship and groovy rhythms. His thoughtful lyrics are carefully crafted together with deliciously catchy melodies and tasty grooves which are served over a bed of experienced musicality and performing talent.

Kaley’s family hails from Okinawa, Japan with his uncle living in Haebaru, which is one of Lethbridge’s Sister Cities. It made sense to host this special event in City Hall where our connections all came together.

Nikka Yuko was so pleased to host the Consulate-General of Japan, Mr. Shigenobu Kobayashi, his wife Mrs. Keiko Kobayashi and Consul Mr. Kohei Sakamoto. Mr. Kobayashi has attended several of Nikka Yuko’s special events and the garden was excited to have the opportunity to host him once again.

We had a fantastic time and want to thank everyone who helped make the event successful. Coulee Brewing Company supplied us with their Green Tea Pilsner, KOKO Japanese Restaurant provided the delicious Okinawa doughnuts, and Yakitori-Ya made mouth-watering skewers for our guests.

Thank you also to Casey Ling and Brian Cole who are both extremely students at the University who came out to the garden in the afternoon to perform jazz for our guests.

We look forward to another year of Jazz!
