Volunteers

Nikka Yuko cannot exist without the support of numerous volunteers. Volunteer opportunities are as follows:

Tour Guide - Volunteers greet visitors and may provide tours of the Garden. A script and training will be provided to ensure the volunteer is familiar with garden history, plants/trees/shrubs and structures.

Gardening Assistant - Volunteers perform routine gardening tasks that allow the groundskeepers to concentrate on their particular specialties. Duties may vary, but the primary tasks are fine weeding, raking and light maintenance. Gardening assistants do not handle any gardening equipment outside what is needed to perform the aforementioned tasks.

Musicians - Volunteers perform at Special Events or on weekends and play traditional Japanese musical instruments such as the Koto, Okinawa banjo, Taiko drums, Shakuhachi bamboo flute or other instrument conducive to peace, tranquility and relaxation such as flute, violin, harp, cello, etc.

Japanese Tea Ceremony Practitioner - Volunteers perform and/or provide lessons in a Japanese Tea ceremony on weekends or at Special Events.

Artist or Performer - Volunteers demonstrate and/or provide lessons in various Japanese art forms on weekends or at Special Events.

We hope you will support the Garden by becoming a member or volunteer. Phone 403-328-3511 or e-mail info@nikkayuko.com for more information.
